Dogs were still of a higher quality than the bitches, mouths and dentition has certainly improved especially in the young I wish I could say the same regarding movement, I would say the greatest challenge for breeders is to improve the structure of the breed, when the dog is built as the standard says then the correct movement will follow. Scissoring on the dogs was more noticeable, Shih Tzu are not a trimmed breed but some of the trimming was so obvious that one wonders where it will end. All in all a disappointing entry with a high number of absentees. |

This is the first time that I have judged the breed when I could say that the Dogs were of a higher standard than the bitches, size balance and movement seem to have been sacrificed for coat which in some trailed on the floor by two or three inches this only hampers movement and does not enhance the outline of the dog, it seems that we have forgotten that the standard asks for a short legged dog 101/2 inches at the shoulder, even some of the puppies must have been above the height the standard calls for. Judging for type is not possible as there are so many variations in size and shape. The size and condition of the ring did not help movement so I had to allow for this. The puppy classes were a pleasure to judge with a number of very promising puppies it was in the puppy classes where the improvement in mouths was most noticeable |
