| 1. Members of the Shih Tzu Club agree to accept and abide by the Rules and Regulations and the Club’s Code of Ethics.
2. Before breeding a litter, equal consideration should be given to type, temperament, health and soundness. The stock will be Kennel Club registered. Nervous or aggressive dogs are not satisfactory as breeding stock or pets and should not be bred from.
3. At all times to maintain a high standard of health and care for the dogs. To properly house, feed and exercise. All dogs to have proper veterinary care if and when needed.
4. No bitch should be bred from under 18 months of age or have more than six litters in her lifetime or if the dam has reached the age of eight years. No bitch should be mated at every season.
5. When the dogs are away from home, ensure that the dogs shall wear properly tagged collars and shall be kept fully leashed or under effective control.
6. To undertake not to allow any dog in their care to roam at large or to cause a nuisance.
7. No member should breed a litter unless he/she has the time and facilities to devote proper time and attend to the rearing of the puppies and the well-being of the dam. No member should provide stud services unless he/she is satisfied that the owner of the bitch has such time and facilities.
8. ALL BREEDING SHOULD BE AIMED AT THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE BREED AND MEMBERS SHOULD DO ALL IN THEIR POWER TO DISCOURAGE BREEDING FROM CLEARLY INFERIOR SPECIMENS – AND OWNERS OF STUD DOGS SHOULD REFUSE SERVICE TO SUCH SPECIMENS.
9. No member should allow their bitch to have a litter unless he/she is reasonably sure of finding good, permanent homes for the puppies. No puppy should leave the breeder before 8 weeks of age.
10. Not knowingly to sell a Shih Tzu to a commercial dealer, retailer, puppy farm or laboratory.
11. Prospective buyers of puppies should be checked for suitability and be advised of the characteristics of the Shih Tzu as a breed with a need for grooming and exercise. Puppies should not be sold to homes where they will be on their own all day.
12. Every puppy should have a diet sheet and worming certificate when sold.
13. Members must undertake to do their utmost to take back any puppy or adult that they have bred if the present owner must part with it for whatever reason.
14. Make use of the Kennel Club free Endorsement scheme when appropriate.
15. Do not sell a Shih Tzu to any country without legislation for the protection of animals from cruelty similar in intent to such laws in Great Britain and who do not have a reciprocal agreement with the English Kennel Club.
16. Acknowledge their responsibility to clean up after their dogs in public places. |
