| A Sad Loss To Shih Tzu |
Audrey Dadds
It is with great sadness that we hear of Audrey's death. Her loss is a calamity for the world of Shih Tzu as she will be irreplaceable.During the many years Audrey was associated with the Shih Tzu Club she introduced many fresh ideas as a member of the committee. Later, as President, she was always helpful and able to give advice to anyone, particularly newcomers to the breed. Her friendly personality and sense of humour brought conversations around the ring much enjoyment.
In the early days, she ran the Club stall for quite long time and passed it over to me when I became a committee member. When she was not showing her own dogs, she would wander around the show watching the judging and speaking to friends and making new ones.
Audrey's love of the breed was paramount and she would resist any deviation to the standard by word and written word regarding the structure of the Shih Tzu, temperament, type and natural care of the coat. This did not include bows, padding in the topknots or anything that is foreign to dogs in the utility group, "Bows are for toys" she always said!
Her books on the breed were known as the "Shih Tzu bible" and I think this says it all. They were so well written and gave us hours of pleasure as well as practical information. She was immensely knowledgeable about the breed.
In her declining years, her loss of sight was a maddening handicap but she continued working to the best of her ability in bringing her last book up-to-date. Her many friends gave exceptional help, visiting her home, bathing her dogs and any of the jobs she could not manage herself.
We will miss Audrey more than words can tell and are well aware she will be a hard act to follow.
To her family and friends we send our deepest condolences.
Cynthia Tigwell
Vice Chairman
Last week I received two phone calls one from Valerie Goodwin and just 20 minutes later a call from Pat Gregory with the sad news that my dear friend of 27 years Audrey had died. I was devastated as I believed she was preparing to return home from hospital.
I first met Audrey in 1980 while visiting the U.K. to attend Crufts, my friend Francis Yeoh drove me to visit Audrey and she offered to allow me to show Nanki at Crufts under Cathie Sutton, and that was the start of our friendship.
Audrey allowed me to purchase 3 dogs (2 bitches and 1 dog) from her, my lifelong ambition to own a Snaefell.
Over the years we have kept in touch and for the past 18 months or so I have phoned every 4-5 weeks for a long talk about anything and everything. I will miss her so much.
Sleep peacefully my dear friend.
