do you think its fair to continue to show Champion dogs at open shows. Most of the judges know they are ch. and will not put them down.

There are several ways of looking at this. Personally, I don't see a problem with it.

Young dogs at open shows are there, primarily, for experience, not just winning. I appreciate that some people show at open shows for a hobby and may feel hard done by if beaten by a champion. Although, I think that's slightly unfair if they've been beaten by a better dog!

Open shows are where new judges cut their teeth. Surely it's important that these judges get the chance to gain experience of champion dogs as well, while learning?

It's a fair question. In this instance the dog isn't (yet at least) a UK Champion but champion dogs are shown at Open shows regularly, especially the breed club shows.

I suppose if you ask a show society committee they might tell you they are glad for entries. If you ask a novice judge you might get a range of views but I suspect on an educational level many would relish the chance to get their hands on a successful dog. If you ask an exhibitor, especially one just starting out, they might feel it unfair.

I've seen champions being put down at open shows too so it isn't always a case of them just showing up and collecting the award.

Personally I tend to feel that you learn more about what makes good dogs by being exposed to them than you can get out of a book and that - on balance - banning champions from open shows would do more harm than good.
Never argue with an idiot. He'll drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Alot of people who attend Open Shows do so because they enjoy showing there its friendly less formal than championship shows.

I agree showing champions at open shows is a good way for judges to go over a dog and gain hands on experience

Entering a Champion one has to remember it can go one of two ways the same as showing any dog that is entered plus you are putting the dog up to be knocked and if they are so be it.

I remember competing against Val with a dog that I think had 2 CCs with 2 puppies I bred a dog and a bitch and the dog I bred won BOB

I have entered shows under breed judges who need the numbers and if they want to progress up the judging ladder its important to have the numbers, they are also a good way for dogs to practice and not get used to not being around shows.

At this show and the few I have attended in the last year I have only been able to show Danny all be it he is a Champion in Europe and has as Adam says 2 CCs here, Tammy has the same 2 CCs here and awards in Europe plus she hates open shows, the puppies are to young and it would have been unethical to take Roger
