Full critique for Manchu Shih Tzu Society 1 2024
Show critique
My thanks to the secretary and committee for the invitation to judge their championship show and to my very efficient stewards who kept things moving forward due to the late start mid afternoon as the championship show followed the Open show. It is always a pleasure and honour to judge a breed show and I was delighted with my entry especially my bitch line up. Having judged this breed since the 70’s at championship level a lot has changed some good and some not so good, presentation is excellent. Size, the breed is becoming larger although a few were for me perfect size, movement has always been a problem a Shih Tzu should reach in front with legs as straight as possible allowing for a broad chest and drive the rear, in some this is not happening some paddling at front and at rear moving too close and not showing clear pad, on the whole the top lines were good but I was sorry to see a few flat tails this is not correct and spoils the outline and balance. A few overweight again this affects the movement causing the dog to waddle. On the whole bitches were far better than dogs.
