Full Critique for BUBA 2021

This critique reflects the judge's opinion
based on what they saw on the day of the show.
| On a positive note, I saw some fantastic heads today and pleased to report an improvement in width of jaw and lack of ’white of eye’. Clearly, there is a lot more to this breed than just the head, but most of today’s entries got off to a good start by ticking the right box in this department. On a constructive note, I would urge some exhibitors – who choose NOT to free-stand their dog - to concentrate a little more on ’stacking’ correctly. The first thing a judge will look at when judging the individual dog is the profile on the table. The final thing a judge will probably look at, is the dog’s profile in the class line up. At the end of judging each dog’ s movement, I ask the handlers to free-stand their dog, so I can observe the ’natural’ stance. Most toplines at this point were fine – so how come, the same dog on the table, or in the line-up [when the handler was ’ in charge’] the topline was NOT level? I’ m a HUGE fan of Showdog MEDIA’ s livestreaming [provided it remains positive viewing!] - it offers more people the chance to observe our breed more closely - so whichever way you choose to stack your dog, ’free-standing’ or ’handling’, please apply a little more concentration, and show the viewers a better overall picture of our breed. [Rant over]. I make no apologies if my critique appears somewhat repetitive. A respectable breed-specialist judge recent told me, “It is difficult NOT to sound repetitive in your critique if you have found what your’e looking for”. I found a lot of what I was looking for in many of the winners ’ line-ups, so I have ’ binned’ the Thesaurus, and simply critiqued each dog on its individual merit. | 1st | Massarati Arssamandi Astarte Gold At Densown (ImpP | Classic puppy head, dark round puppy eyes, dark pigmentation and a wide jaw. Good length of neck leading to a spirit-level topline - both standing and on the move. Good width at the front and rear, deep chest, correct length of leg to body length and height, presented a head-turning profile. Attractive gold and white markings completed a very desirable young puppy. A little spooked on his first run out but held it together in his solo performance and got better and better as the day progressed. Set a very high bar at the start of the day, for others to follow. | 1st | Hot Chilli Sweet Addict At Densown | Another singleton, but what a treat. A gold and white with dark round eyes, good pigmentation and wide jaw. Wide and deep chest, good topline, well sprung ribs and moved well with good rear drive, showing both pads delivering great ring presence. A little higher in leg than today’s BP, but everything in proportion. If these winning pups keep on track as they mature, there’s surely a bright future ahead for both. |

| 1st | Ch. Matsuba King Of Hearts | This Junior class continued the high standard previously set, with all three putting in a sterling performance. A Gold and White with a broad head, dark eyes, open nostrils on a slightly top-tilted nose and broad jaw. Good neck, level topline and good length of rib and coupling. Correct width at front and rear and a great profile on the table. Outstanding, flowing movement completed the picture. |
| 2nd | Ch. Cremefern Trigger A Storm At Symaraju JW | I was spoilt for correct heads in today’s winners and this was no exception. Another Gold and White with a broad head, dark round eyes, good nose, and a wide jaw. Good overall profile with superb flowing movement. A little underweight today, but nothing that can’t be fixed. |

| 1st | Baccibo Truly Madley Deeply | A Solid deep Gold 18-month-old. Broad head with dark round eyes and wide jaw. Good topline and great bone and substance throughout. A solid boy with attractive proportions and moved well. BSBIB |
| 2nd | Shenleyvale Orange Juicy For Juhua | A Black and White approaching 2yr old. Broad head, with well-rounded eyes and top-tilted nose. Overall body okay but waiting to mature and lacking in coat. Could be a slow-burner, so well worth waiting for. |

| 1st | Emerson Alpiu Slenis Of Alchez JW ShCEx OSW | A 13-month-old black and tan with promise. Another well-proportioned dog of good size. Broad head, wide jaw and good length of neck leading to the most level of toplines. Outstanding, flowing movement in the class, totally ’in sync’ with his handler – sheer ’devotion’ oozed from this youngster towards his handler, good to see. Unfortunately, put in a lacklustre performance in the challenge under a substitute handler, but certainly one for the future. |
| 2nd | Gladmin Soweto Star Over Mattiana | A Two year old Gold and White. Broad head, dark round eyes and good width of jaw. Good width at front and back, plenty of substance and a well-balanced profile. Coat presented in great condition, but a below-par performance around the ring. |

| 1st | Ch. Senousi Dressed For It By Fairmere | A Gold and White 2yr old. Textbook broad head, with dark round eyes, slight tilt of nose and a wide jaw, with a traditional oriental expression. Good width at front and deep-chested. Level topline good ribs and plenty of substance throughout. Nothing pretentious about this young fellow, gave another honest account of himself today. Plenty of wins under his belt and more to come, I’m sure. |
| 2nd | Charonnis Vegas High Roller | A Gold and White 3yr old oozing coat. Good broad attractive male head with a dreamy ’mischievous’ expression. Plenty of width front and rear, well boned and good body. Good tail placement, held well on the move, revealing a super balanced profile. Maturing very nicely, immaculately presented and well handled. Good times ahead. |

| 1st | Marbo Whatever You Want | A Gold and White 2yr old. Attractive, broad head, dark round warm eyes, slight tilt of nose with a wide jaw. Correct neck leading to a spirit-level topline. Plenty of width at front and rear. One of the best tail carriages on show today. Coat in great condition and presented well. Literally lead from the front in this class showing great balanced movement across the ring. |
| 2nd | Centastage Domino | A Black and White 4yr old with superb substance. Solid, broad head with dark eyes and wide jaw. Plenty of width at front and rear. Great rib-cage, well boned and plenty of body. Busy handler had plenty of work to do today to get this fellow into the winning line up, but she did it well. |

| 1st | Paliden Shine Like A Star | A deep Gold and White bursting with energy. Broad head, dark eyes set wide apart, black nose with slight tilt and wide jaw. Ample width at front and back, deep chest, well ribbed, correct coupling and great tail placement. Super profile on the table and held well throughout his outstanding movement across the ring. Oozing energy and could have kept going all day long. RDCC |
| 2nd | Miracey Sand Warrior For Tilbe | A good looking 2yr old Gold and White. Nice broad head with dark, round eyes, good facial pigmentation and a wide jaw. Correct width at front with a deep chest. Well laid shoulders, a level topline and well-ribbed. Plenty of substance throughout and a great profile. Clearly, adores his handler/owner and together, put on a flowing performance around the ring. Matured well and ready for success. |

| 1st | Ta Maria Black Edition at Matsuba (Fin Imp) | Black and White 4yr old. Broad head, dark round eyes set well apart, slight top-tilt of nose and wide mouth projected the ’snootiest’ of expressions. Don’t let his abundance of coat fool anyone, everything you could hope for is waiting underneath. Correct width at front and rear, with a deep chest. Well laid-back shoulders and firm elbows. Level topline and perfect rib-to-coupling proportions. Good spring of rib and plenty of substance throughout. Smooth, flowing movement, with reach at front and drive from the rear, polished off an outstanding performance. I was fortunate to judge this dog as a puppy first time out and have watched him develop from strength to strength. In prime condition and at the top of his game, with plenty more to come. | 2nd | Ch. Santosha Daybreak | A Gold and White 4yr old. Broad head with dark round eyes of good width. Tip-tilted black nose, wide jaw culminating in the sweetest of male expressions. Good width at front and rear with a deep chest. Well ribbed and ample bone and body throughout. Plenty of coat in superb condition, excellent handling producing superb flowing movement around the ring. The finest of margins and very little to choose between these two, his crowning CC, is surely imminent. |

| 1st | Ch. Cremefern Sweet Talkin Guy JW ShCM VW | A gold and white 9yr old ’youngster’. A broad attractive head, with dark, round eyes, a black nose and wide jaw projecting a youthful male expression. Good length of neck leading to a good topline. Good width at front and back with a pleasing profile on the table and around the ring. Showing little sign of ageing - A proven winning career, with the breed database recording a host of BOB’s, and shows he is approaching a staggering 60 class wins at the time of writing this critique. | 2nd | Jadoremy Thunder Bolt Zuse Sh CM VW | A Gold and White 7yr old. Dark round eyes, and good wide jaw. Good length of neck leading to a level topline. Good width at front and rear. Great tail carriage producing an admirable head-to-tail profile. Coat in super condition, highlighting a flowing movement around the ring. Came up against a strong winner today, but fingers-crossed for a good veteran career ahead for this ’young’ chap. Immaculately turned out and well handled. |

| 1st | Malaga Arssamandi Astarte Gold At Densown | 8-month-old attractive Gold and White. Top marks for puppy broad head, dark eyes and good pigmentation. Good width between front legs, level top line with broad ribs and correct loin. Lovely movement covering the whole ring. A worthy winner of such a large minor puppy class. |
| 2nd | Tzusweet Black Pearl | Another 8 month old, this time an impressive solid black. Broad feminine head, large eyes and wide jaw. Correct neck leading to a level topline and well sprung ribs. Good early profile and size, moved well. A treat for solid black connoisseurs to watch out for. Gave winner a run for her money in a good entry of 10. |

| 1st | Thaisu Every Witch Way to Marbo | A very pleasing 11 month old ’Diva ’with a promising future. Large dark eyes and strong pigmentation on a broad feminine head. Correct width at front and back, level topline, with more than adequate rib and good bone, resulting in a great profile. Kept her handler busy who did a sterling job to harness the pup’s abundance of energy BPB |
| 2nd | Marhilway Explorer The Edge | Another promising Gold and White youngster with a superb head. Large dark eyes and correct nose length with pleasing open nostrils. Good front and rear with level topline. Gave her handler too much to do on the move today, but another one to watch. |

| 1st | Ch. Zeeva Mirror Image JW | Only a class of two today, but the standard was ’off the scale’. A superb feminine gold and white, with large dark round eyes, wide jaw, good pigment and correct tilted nose, painting the sweetest of pictures. Good neck leading to a level topline, both standing and on the move. Stunning profile and still only 16-month-old. Easy to see why this young girl already has an impressive collection of wins under her belt and is still at the start - of what is bound to be - a successful show career. |
| 2nd | Tansingh Dance Me On And On | A Gold and White 14-month promising youngster. Dark round eyes set at correct distance apart, good pigment, top-tilted nose and wide jaw giving a lovely feminine expression. Correct width at front and back, good rib and well boned. Stunning movement with great drive showing both pads. Could have gone either way today – fine lines considered before making final choice. |

| 1st | Elzu Ebony And Ivory | A Black and white 3yr old - another singleton class entry. An adequate head, but well-boned and substantial body. A ’fidgety’ performance, particularly on the move, with low-pulling head, constantly with nose to the ground, so never really showing any kind of profile. |

| 1st | Ch. Santosha Silhouette | An attractive 13 month old with a broad head, dark, round eyes set well apart and a dark pigmented, top-tilted nose. A full wide jaw finishing off a text-book breed head. Forefront and rear correct, with a level topline, good ribs and bone, with a balanced head to tail finishing off a delightful profile. |
| 2nd | Thaisu Sister Bliss | An 11 month Black and White pup with quality. Good broad head with dark round eyes giving off the sweetest of expressions. Great shape and profile both stacked and moving round the ring. Many of today’s classes could have had first and second switched round on another day, and this was one of them. |

| 1st | Charonnis Vegas Showgirl | One of the ’stand-out’ performances of the day for me. This 2 year old Gold and White showgirl is maturing so well. With the sweetest of feminine expressions, showing off her dark round eyes, correctly placed dark nose and wide jaw. Good width at front and rear, with a level topline and well sprung ribs adding the finishing touches to an impressive profile. Turned out to perfection, she has now matured so well and is surely knocking on the door to great success. RBCC |
| 2nd | Ethelsmead Connie Francis | A 21 month old Black and White girl with super expression. Good neck leading to a level topline, good ribs and excellent bone. Superb tail set in line with the top of her head. Well handled, showing off sound movement. |

| 1st | Thaisu Gothic Witch | There were some amazing examples of what I was hoping for in the breeds ’head’ on show today. None more so, than this wee beauty. Typical dark round eyes, correct distance apart with slight tilt of nose, adding to the wide jaw to reveal her amazing expression. Good width at front and rear with a level topline, showing good length of rib and coupling proportions. A sound bitch putting in a great performance on the move. |
| 2nd | Chanikos My Wildest Dream | Another 15 month old Gold and White youngster typifying the breed so well today. Broad head with dark round eyes. Good neck leading to a level topline. Plenty of substance with a great profile, both on the table and around the ring. |

Feminine broad head with dark, melting eyes, slight tilt of nose and correct wide jaw, resulting in a melting expression. A good neck leading to a level topline on a well-boned framework. Ample, deep chest, short legs with plenty of muscle. Good spring of rib and correct length. Muscular thighs giving plenty of drive, showing both pads from the rear. Coat in good condition and a balanced, impressive profile. Presented and handled well, with outstanding movement once settled - a hidden gem for me. Pleased to see she has matured so well and is now coming into her own. More than worthy of her first CC award - and now ready for a couple more. BCC |

Another exhibit with a broad head, large dark, round eyes, slight top-tilt of nose and black pigmentation, with a broad mouth on the prettiest of heads. Good neck leading to a level topline. Good overall balanced profile, with front reach and impressive rear driving action resulting in an eye-catching, flowing movement. |

A proven, winning girl with an impressive number of class wins. |

Would have preferred a slightly longer neck and higher tail for a better profile, but a super level topline. Fantastic body, bone and ribcage. Would also prefer to see slightly less leg, but nonetheless a ’young’ veteran in great condition. |
