Thank you to the WELKS Officers & Committee for the invitation to judge at this well run Championship show. Thank you also to my able Stewards who worked hard all day & to the Exhibitors for their entries and good sportsmanship. As we all know, a Breed Standard is the blueprint of any breed and to me, breed type & characteristics of the Shih Tzu are of utmost importance. The perfect dog has not yet been born & judging dogs has to be about compromises and when I judge, I aim for the merits of the exhibits to be at the forefront. I was very pleased with my winners, however, in certain classes, I was disappointed with some of the exhibits and felt I would have been compromising on too many breed points to place them higher.

My thanks to the Officers & Committee for the opportunity to judge at this most prestigious show. It was an honour & privilege, and I also send my thanks to my two able stewards Bill & Trish and the exhibitors for their entries and good sportsmanship.The perfect dog has not been born, so when judging it’s understood you have to make compromises and today I found it challenging when doing this as there is so much diversity in breed type. The breed standard is the blueprint of every breed and all breeders should be aspiring to breed to the standard.

We must preserve Breed Type I found a lot of exhibits lacking in depth of skull and padding on the muzzle,also narrowness through the body there is a lot of variation in the type .
